Two Scary Stories, free on Amazon

Two Scary Stories, free on Amazon

This Friday through to next Tuesday (Mar 10 through Mar 14, 2017), will feature a couple of stories that we usually feature on the Halloween weekend, “Beyond the Blue Door” and “The Magnetic Anomaly”. But, March is a pretty scary month, too, what with its usual crazy weather, so we figured, why not feature them now?

P.S.  Does a Halloween story have to mention the word Halloween?  That’s a deep philosophical question, but the reviewer still gave “Beyond the Blue Door” 4 out of 5 stars, so maybe it doesn’t really matter.  :).

Beyond the Blue Door

Here's a tale of a haunted house, of a sort. Really, two haunted houses are involved. But where does the greater evil reside - in the safe family domicile of our everyday world or in the creepy old abandoned farmhouse? And then there’s the question that we must all face eventually. What lies Beyond The Blue Door?

Note that this is a short story of about 7000 words, or a reading time of 30 to 45 minutes.

...Beyond it, she knew, was a world so wonderful and magical that she spent hours pretending that she belonged." Author does a tremendous job putting real flesh and bones on her characters such that you really feel for the plight of Jenny and her older sister caught in a back-country world were women are only tools of the men that keep them. Story ends leaving you hoping for more of 'what lies beyond the blue door? Very good book and I wouldn't hesitate to read more of this authors' works!

I wonder how many of us hide behind that door that only we can see. Hide from what scares us. Hiding from a life we don't truly want to be in.

Had nothing to do with Halloween! It didn't even use the word Halloween once in the entire story. Not Once!

The Magnetic Anomaly: A Science Fiction Story

An attractive woman in a blue suit handed a dossier to an older man in a blue uniform.

“Give me a quick recap”, he said.

“A geophysical crew went into the Canadian north. There were some regrettable accidents among a few ex-military who had become geophysical contractors after their service in the forces. A young man and young woman went temporarily mad from the stress of seeing that. They imagined things, terrible things. But both are known to have vivid imaginations; we have childhood records to verify that. It was all very sad. That’s the official story.”

He raised an eyebrow. “And unofficially?”

“Unofficially,” she responded, “I think we just woke something up that had been asleep for a very long time.”
This is a short story of about 6500 words, or about 35 to 45 minutes reading time, for typical readers.

A great short story! It weaves the ancient belief in Windigo and the more modern belief in UFO's and aliens together in the creation of a suspense filled page turner. The author appears to be knowledgeable on the technical aspects of the story. I recommend it.....a quick read well worth your time!

This is not a book. It is a short story. Just about the time it gets interesting, it ends!

Publisher's Note: though this is a short story, a second chapter has been written, for a novel length treatment of the subject.  But, that will take a while.  In the mean time, enjoy it as a short story!  :)
